5 Tips for Staying Motivated
Wednesday, August 8, 2018
1. Create Small Wins
Studies suggest that dreaming big and setting high goals can help you achieve your goals due to the initial excitement of imagining your targets – but this can wear off after a week or two. By creating small wins within your larger goals, your final target will begin to feel much more achievable. Once you have set your ultimate goals, set around 10 smaller challenges to help you get there!
Smaller challenges could include:
- Spending an extra 10 minutes in the gym
- Sticking to a meal plan
- Doing an extra home workout
- Eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables each day
- Taking the stairs instead of the lift
2. Reward Yourself
Keep a note of how many small goals you achieve per week and reward yourself! Setting a goal of 5 or 10 small wins then treating yourself to a reward can help you to push yourself and stay on track. It could be treating yourself to a manicure, buying something online, or doing something you enjoy like booking a relaxing pamper day – it will feel so much more rewarding when you know you’ve earned it!
3. Design a Mood Board
Having a visual reminder can really help you stick to your goals. Design a small mood board with inspirational images, such as healthy recipes or a workout guide. Include any images or quotes that really motivate you (See our Pinterest page for some inspiration!) Then place the mood board somewhere you will always see it, such as by your bedroom mirror, on the fridge, or even as your desktop home screen. That way you will be reminded daily, and it will help you stay focused!
4. Get Some Support
Another tried and tested way of motivating yourself is creating a support system. Sometimes, your goals can become much clearer once you’ve talked it out with another person. Find a friend you can speak to about your goals and ask them to help keep you on track – even better if they have similar goals! But if your friend isn’t up for being your go-to workout buddy, then try finding support online. The fitness community is ever-growing on social media and it can be a great feeling to spread mutual support and share gym selfies!
5. Keep a Diary
Keeping a log of your eating and working out habits can help you see how much you’ve achieved. Write down your daily habits and weekly results and reflect upon any recurring patterns. Did you notice better results after a specific workout? Knowing this information can help you discover what food and exercise plan works best for your body. If you’re not a fan of pen and paper, why not create a visual diary such as a fitness account online? You can keep it private or share your progress with others!
