Winter Running Advice

Even though the weather is getting colder, it is important to stay motivated and run the distance even with winter approaching! Here are a few top tips for running in the winter:

  • Warm up – Prepare for the chilly run by getting your blood flowing and warming up your muscles. Start with indoor warm ups – a few stretches and a gentle run on the spot. Once you’re out there, start with a very gentle run and ease yourself into the ideal running pace.
  • Stayed hydrated – Hydrate like it’s Summer time, ladies! As we’re losing just as much fluid, it is important to stayed hydrated during the Winter as well as during the Summer. Try a warmer temperature of water during the colder months.
  • Be visible – With the night drawing in much quicker, it’s important (for your safety) for you to be visible. Switch up your usual running gear with reflective and fluorescent running gear. You could even carry a torch or use a headlamp to help people to see you.
  • Layer Up – Layer, layer and layer. During the colder months, layer a lightweight base layer, a technical top and a lightweight fleece/waterproof jacket on the top half. On the bottom half, opt for running leggings or tights underneath shorts or tracksuit bottoms. Don’t forget your gloves and hat!
